7 BEST FLY FISHING HATS

Everyone has a favorite hat, the one that fits exactly right. For some of us, a hat is a way of life. I cannot even remember the last time I seen my dad without a hat on. I was out fly fishing the other day on the Bow River near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The sun was shining, and the temperature was hot, extremely hot. If you have a wife or partner like mine that is always telling me to cover up from that hot sun, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Apparently, she wants me looking young forever. Anyhow, my friends and I started comparing our hats and who has the best one for the different elements that we are always facing up here in Canada.

I thought it would be cool to write about the top-rated hats on the market right now. It is safe to say that mine did not make the list. I was surprised by how many unique styles and features these different fishing hats have. My old baseball cap just does not cut it when compared to these. I went on Amazon and compiled a list of the highest and most ranked fishing types of hats available. Let us dive right in!

#7 Henschel Hats Aussie Breezer 5310 Cotton Mesh Hat

Made by Henschel, this 4.7 rated hat has over 2,500 reviews. I see lots of people fly fishing with this hat. They offer multiple sizes which is something I wish more hat companies would incorporate. The entire mesh top would be great if you sweat a lot. I also like the colors that they offer.

#6 Columbia Unisex-Adult PFG Mesh Fish Flag Ball Cap

You have to love the way a baseball cap fits and looks, the fish on the flags are pretty cool! This fishing hat is rated 4.8 out of 5 with over 5,000 reviews lets me know this hat is well liked by its customers. This hat makes me want to get out to the lake and get my hook wet! I am a huge fan of the full mesh backing to keep the head cool. This hat is great for anglers who are on the water or messing around with their other hobbies.

#5 The Hat Depot 300N Unisex

Coming in with over 15,000 reviews, 77% of which are 5 stars, this hat is quite raved about. It comes in over 50 assorted colors. With a low-price tag, I can see why it is one of Amazons best sellers. It will protect some of the neck and face, but the rim is not very large. It has a few brass tone ventilation eyelets to let a little air in. This hat looks like it would be great for any outdoor activity.

#4 GearTOP Fishing Hat and Safari Cap

Over 10,000 reviews with 73% of them 5 stars, this fishing hat is clearly well liked. With UPF 50+ protection, the UVA and UVB rays will not be making leather out of your skin. The adjustable drawstring is perfect if you are that fly fisher that plans to go for a dip in the river like Brad Pitt in that movie, A River Runs Through It. I think that is my favorite movie fishing scene! My favorite part about this hat is the amount of mesh it has, as I am easily annoyed by too much heat. This hat would be great for all types of fishing trips.

#3 EINSKEY Sun Hat for Men/Women

With 14,500 customer reviews, 75% of them 5 stars. EINSKEY clearly knows how to make a hat people like. Water repellent, built in sweat band, 100% polyester and offers a drawstring, it is a one size fits most adults. Seems easy and great, unless your head is gigantic like mine! The wide brim would definitely help to keep the rain off. I do like that this hat can be folded and shoved in the backpack. I am impressed by the reasonable prices on these outdoor hats. The last hat I bought was on a trip to New Orleans, it ran me over $100 US!

#2 Ddyoutdoor Fashion Summer Outdoor Sun Protection Fishing Cap

I am not letting the wife read this blog, she would make me buy this hat! Over 6,100 reviews, it has an overall rating of 4.6. This hat has multiple features, including: 100% nylon, UPF 50+, removeable face protector flaps, brass mesh side panels, drawstring and large back and bill flaps to get the full protection. I’m thinking this hat would also be great to keep the bugs out. Where I live, the mosquitos and black flies can be annoying. It is advertised as a one size fits all and is recommended to hand wash only. They also offer a hot pink color which might be stylish at the river...

#1 Columbia Unisex Adult Bora Bora Booney

Okay, so after researching this hat, I totally ended up buying one for me and one for my father. With a rating of 4.7 on Amazon.com, 80% of the 11,000 reviews were 5 stars. Very impressive! This hat has what Columbia calls OMNI-SHADE and OMNI-WICK technology. Omni-shade is tight weaving construction with special UV absorbent yarns which helps to block the rays. Omni-wick is supposed to move moisture from the skin into the fabric which then evaporates. That sounds interesting. The hat is 100% nylon, has mesh sides and that handy drawcord. I also like the colors that this hat comes in.

Depending on the hat you have or decide to buy, I would suggest checking out our face shield masks. Face Shield tubular bandanas offer sun protection without weighing you down out on the river or lake while fishing. Face Shield tubular bandanas can be worn in MULTIPLE WAYS! Lightweight and comfortable, face shields wick away moisture, dry quickly, and breathe well. They can be worn more than 10 different ways -- from a beanie to a headband to a hair tie.

A decent quality fishing hat is something every angler needs. The suns reflection on the water can cause quite the sunburn which can easily ruin a good day of fishing. I’m hoping my pick today works out! I prefer to be a little bit on the stylish side, as my friends like to poke fun if I wear something purely for comfort (socks with sandals). Thanks guys...
