The Green Midge is simple and subtle which is exactly what we want it to be. The green with silver bead is a little flashy, so we tend to use these midges when the water is clearer, and it is a sunnier day outside.
Midges are great because they can be fished all year long. Hatches can be happening in streams where the water temperatures don’t change all that much. I have seen hatches when the snow was falling, and I was lucky enough to catch a large brook trout that day.
Zinger Fishing offers multiple hook sizes, and I would suggest getting a few of each so you have multiple options next time you are out fly fishing. Matching the correct hatch is sometimes impossible, but you will at least want to match the color to give you the best odds of catching a whole pile of fish.
